The 1963 season was the 14th for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL, and their 18th overall. The team was trying to improve on their 6-8 record from the previous season , but instead fell to a 2-12 record. After losing their first three games, head coach Red Hickey resigned, and Jack Christiansen finished the season on an interim basis.
