Jacob Edward Long was born on May 9, 1985 in Lapeer, Michigan and is currently an offensive tackle for the NFL's Miami Dolphins. He was drafted by the Dolphins with the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan.
Early years
He attended Lapeer East High School in Lapeer, Michigan where he was the second player in his high school's history to earn all-state first team honors in football. In baseball he played first base and is the all time leader in home runs and RBI.[1]
College career
At Michigan he was a four-year letterman. He was also two-time captain, one of only 11 players in Michigan History to be so honored. He appeared in 28 games and made 25 starts at offensive tackle, 14 of which were at right tackle and 11 at left tackle. In 2007 Jake only allowed one sack and had no holding calls on him. In 2003 he was redshirted.[2]

Professional career
Miami Dolphins
On April 22, 2008, Long agreed to a five-year, $57.75 million deal with the Miami Dolphins. $30 million is guaranteed and the signing makes him the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.[4] This made him, as of that date, the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL.[5] Long will once again play alongside his college teammate Chad Henne who was also selected by the Dolphins.
In Long's first rookie mini camp, he wore number 79 because number 77, the jersey number he wore at Michigan and in high school, was taken by Drew Mormino. Shortly after the mini camp, however, the Dolphins cut Mormino, giving Long a clean shot at keeping the number 77.[6]
